Chocolate Covered Strawberries – Healthy Halloween Treat

Happy Halloween!!!

Have Fun Educating and Inspiring Your Children!

I do not share the excitement about Halloween that most Americans do. It is likely because I did not grow up with the tradition in Brazil. The idea of buying or making a costume, getting dressed up, and going places to party for that drains my energy. Isn’t it funny? It’s just not my thing. It’s totally OK.

I recognize that is a great opportunity to build and make fun memories. Those who engage with the festivities have a ton of fun preparing for the day, creative minds come out, children look cute and engage with others as they knock on people’s doors.

My concern is about with the amount of added sugar children, and adults consume the day of and days ahead. I will share the dangers of added sugars, especially from most of the candies out there in a separate blog post!

That said, I thought I would share an easy, fast to prepare, and fun Halloween sweet treat recipe!

I encourage you to invite your children to help you prepare this recipe. How fun!

This can be a great time and opportunity to educate them on healthy eating, making foods at home and why, talk about food colors and benefits each brings. Make cooking fun, laugh together, play together. Build an amazing experience!

As you know, despite what it may look and feel, kids are listening and watching. As a parent, you are their sounding board, the catalyst for whatever habits, experiences, and beliefs. Children are a reflection of you!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup organic coconut butter Raw and organic for the best health benefits
  • 1/4 cup unrefined raw coconut oil Best if organic and cold pressed
  • 1/2 cup raw cacao powder Pure without sugars added
  • 1/4 cup raw honey, yacon, or agave nectar

  2. Cut the tops off strawberries so that there is a flat surface.
  3. Dip strawberries in the chocolate sauce.
  4. Sprinkle coconut flakes on the strawberries.
  5. Place flat side down on a cookie sheet or plate.
  6. Put in the refrigerator if you would like to enjoy it more like a hard candy.

Enjoy it!
