Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA)

Turn “normal” bloodwork into clear next steps for weight, digestion, energy, focus, and performance with OptimalDX reporting.

Blood draw for functional blood chemistry analysis and bloodwork review

Already Have Bloodwork or Need It Done?

Recent bloodwork from the last 6 months is ideal. Already have results? Great. Upload them after choosing your FBCA option.

Need updated bloodwork? You can order it online, pay out of pocket at discounted cash-pay rates, complete your blood draw locally, and get results in a few days. use those results for your FBCA and OptimalDX report.

Either way, we use your blood test results to better understand what may be affecting your weight, digestion, energy, focus, and performance.

"Normal" Bloodwork Is Not Necessarily Healthy or Optimal

You are stressed, tired, and not feeling like yourself. You have been pouring energy into your work, family, and responsibilities, but now your body is starting to push back.

Maybe your weight, digestion, energy, or focus has changed, and what used to work no longer works.

So you do what responsible people do: you get bloodwork.

But then one of two things happens. Some markers are flagged and you are not sure what they mean.

Or everything comes back “normal,” even though your body is clearly saying otherwise.

Common Scenarios After Bloodwork

When your bloodwork comes back, people usually land in one of two frustrating places.

Scenario #1

Some markers are outside the range

Your doctor may diagnose, prescribe, recommend monitoring or ‘watch it,’ or ask you to retest in a few months. That may be necessary and appropriate, but you may still wonder:

This is where FBCA can help. I do not replace your doctor but I can help you understand your bloodwork patterns in plain English, identify areas worth supporting, and ask your doctor better questions.

Scenario #2

Everything is "normal," but you still feel off

Your bloodwork came back normal, but you still feel tired, foggy, bloated, stuck with weight or cravings, or not like yourself.

That can feel confusing because nothing is flagged, but your body is still giving you signals.

Or you are a top performer and high achiever who wants to know and ensure you’re not missing anything

I get it. It can feel confusing because “normal” does not always mean optimal.

Whether your bloodwork shows flagged markers or everything looks normal, Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA) helps turn the information into context, priorities, and next steps.

Blood Test Results Explained:
What "Normal" Does Not Always Tell You

Conventional bloodwork is useful. It helps identify markers that are clearly high or low. The issue is that standard lab ranges are broad. A marker can be inside the standard range and still be trending away from optimal or healthy.

The Issue With Conventional Blood Test Results

Many people are told their bloodwork is “normal” because nothing is flagged high or low. But a marker can still be inside the standard range and trending away from optimal.

That is the gap FBCA helps explore. Instead of only asking, “Is this marker flagged?” we also ask:

The 3 Bloodwork Zones I Look At

When I review bloodwork through a functional lens, I am not only looking at whether a marker is flagged high or low. I am looking at three important zones.

OptimalDX functional health report showing optimal, suboptimal, and abnormal bloodwork ranges

Optimal Functional Range

This is the tighter range associated with better health, energy, metabolism, digestion, focus, and performance.

Suboptimal or Early Trend Range

This is the in-between zone. A marker may still be inside the standard lab range, but it may already be trending away from optimal.

Outside the Standard Range

This is when a marker is officially flagged high or low on your lab report and should be discussed with your healthcare provider when appropriate.

FBCA does not replace medical care or diagnose disease. It helps us look at the bigger pattern so you can understand what your bloodwork may be showing, take practical lifestyle steps, and ask better questions when working with your healthcare provider.

Horstmann Method

FBCA helps connect your bloodwork with the bigger patterns I look at with clients: weight, digestion, energy, focus, and performance.

Where FBCA and Coaching Support Helps

The OptimalDX report organizes your bloodwork into patterns. My role is to help you understand what those patterns may mean and what to do next.

FBCA is often the starting point for understanding how your bloodwork may connect to weight, digestion, energy, focus, and performance.

As a functional health practitioner and coach, I help you connect your bloodwork with your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and goals.

From there, we identify priorities around diet, exercise, sleep, stress reduction, and targeted supplementation when appropriate.

This may also help you walk into conversations with your doctor more prepared, with better questions, clearer context, and a better understanding.

What's Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA)?

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis is a deeper, pattern-based review of your bloodwork. Instead of only looking at whether a marker is flagged high or low, FBCA looks at how your markers compare to functional ranges, and I will help you understand and connect the findings with your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, stress, sleep, digestion, and goals.

The goal is to answer a better question: what might your bloodwork be showing before things become more obvious?

How FBCA Works

FBCA combines your bloodwork with context. The numbers matter, but they do not tell the full story by themselves.

The review considers:

Then we use the OptimalDX report and coaching review to identify patterns, priorities, and practical next steps.

This May Be a Fit If You Want to Understand Your Bloodwork and Stop Guessing

Stubborn weight, belly fat, or cravings

Bloating, constipation, reflux, or digestion issues

Low energy, afternoon crashes, or poor recovery

Brain fog, focus issues, or feeling mentally flat

Performance at work, in workouts, and in daily life

What to ask your provider and what lifestyle steps to prioritize first

Not Sure What Blood Markers to Order?

FBCA can review 120+ blood markers, but you do not need to figure out the right panel alone. If you already have recent bloodwork, we can start with what you have. If you need updated results, you can use the resources below to compare panels, review biomarkers, or order bloodwork online.

Not all blood panels are created equal.
A basic annual panel may include fewer markers than what is most useful for a functional blood chemistry analysis. Use the comparison sheet below to see the difference between common panels and more comprehensive options.

If you already know you want help understanding your results and next steps, the $347 report plus consultation package gives you the best value.

Yes. If you already have Function Health results, they can often be used for your FBCA and OptimalDX Functional Health Report. Function Health gives you broad bloodwork data. My role is to help you understand patterns, prioritize what matters, and turn the information into practical next steps.

This may help you clarify:

  • What markers deserve attention first
  • How results connect to symptoms
  • What questions to ask your provider
  • What lifestyle steps to prioritize

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, or FBCA, is a deeper review of your bloodwork using functional ranges, symptoms, health history, and lifestyle context. Instead of only looking for high or low flags, FBCA helps identify patterns that may connect to weight, digestion, energy, focus, and performance.

It helps answer:

  • What may be trending away from optimal
  • Why “normal” may not feel normal
  • Where to focus first
  • What to discuss with your provider

Standard bloodwork ranges are broad. They help identify markers that are clearly high or low, but they may not explain why you feel tired, foggy, bloated, stuck with weight, or not like yourself. FBCA looks at functional ranges and patterns to help fill that gap.

Common clues include:

  • Low energy
  • Brain fog
  • Cravings
  • Digestive issues
  • Poor recovery

Standard ranges usually show whether a marker is flagged high or low. Functional ranges are narrower and help identify when markers may be trending away from optimal. This can be helpful when you want to understand your bloodwork before issues become more obvious or harder to ignore.

In simple terms:

  • Standard ranges ask, “Is this flagged?”
  • Functional ranges ask, “Is this optimal?”
  • FBCA looks for patterns
  • Your symptoms add context

When I review bloodwork, I look beyond “normal” or “abnormal.” FBCA looks at three zones so we can better understand whether your markers appear optimal, trending away from optimal, or already outside standard range.

The 3 zones are:

  • Optimal functional range
  • Suboptimal or early-trend range
  • Outside standard range

This helps explain why “normal” does not always mean optimal.

The OptimalDX Functional Health Report organizes your blood markers using functional ranges and pattern-based analysis. Depending on the markers available, it may show patterns related to blood sugar, inflammation, thyroid, nutrients, liver, kidney, digestion, cardiovascular markers, hydration, and overall metabolic health.

The report may include:

  • Out-of-optimal markers
  • Body system patterns
  • Nutrient status
  • Blood test history
  • Health improvement priorities

No. FBCA is not medical diagnosis, treatment, or medication management. It is an educational, coaching-based review of bloodwork patterns. I help you understand what your results may be showing, identify lifestyle priorities, and prepare better questions for your healthcare provider when medical follow-up is needed.

My role is to support:

  • Education
  • Pattern recognition
  • Lifestyle strategy
  • Provider conversation prep

In the 90-minute session, we review your FBCA and OptimalDX report together. I help connect your bloodwork with your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and goals so you leave with clearer priorities and practical next steps.

We may discuss:

  • Diet and meal timing
  • Exercise and recovery
  • Sleep and stress
  • Supplementation when appropriate
  • Questions for your provider

If your bloodwork shows markers that may need medical follow-up, I will encourage you to discuss them with your healthcare provider. I do not diagnose, treat, or manage medications. My role is to help you understand patterns, organize your questions, and support lifestyle steps within my coaching scope.

This may include:

  • Clarifying what to ask your provider
  • Identifying follow-up markers to discuss
  • Supporting diet and lifestyle foundations
  • Coordinating next steps within scope
