Wow, what a morning! I am still smiling after volunteering at Career Day at Dunwoody Spring Elementary in Sandy Springs. Although I prepared a PPT since I could be talking to 4th-5th grades, i had no use for it. I got lucky; I got the little ones of ages 5 and 6. Their energy is contagious. I had 4 back-to-back sessions of 25 minutes each. I met around 80 kids. Yes, I took a 20 min nap when I got home to recover . Bless the hearts and minds of dedicated and caring teachers.
This was my first time presenting to elementary kids. I wasn’t sure how was going to go. My mindset was of having fun and making it fun. And focus on doing my best to show them that vegetables and fruits, water, sleep, exercise, fun, and relaxing/breathing give them more energy to play, smarts, strength, and help them feel great.
WOW, it is hard to describe how it felt and still feel now because those kids were special. We exercised together–they LOVED doing high knees, they answered all kinds of questions about foods, sleep, stress (why/when/how get nervous), and more. They learned how to take deep breathes to reduce anxiety, they learned that exercise, fun, and energy go together and it is for life. Why we need muscles. I brought them strawberries, carrots, and walnuts to eat/try. They loved it and asked for repeats. We talked about importance of eat the rainbow, the go-slow-no foods.
By asking them simple questions, I learned many of those adorable kids have digestive problems (aren’t pooping daily and have stomach aches, every day, more than half wake up tired, about 40-50% are not moving as much, many have stomach aches after eating. About 5 out of 80 I met, were very educated on sugar and what it does. Many of them left with homework of asking mom to buy vegetables and fruits of different colors, go to bed earlier so they wake up more rested, drink more water, eat the fruit instead of juice.
The best part was at the end though– felt so rewarded and made me believe I planted seeds today. So, I decided to stop by at the cafeteria before heading back home. ‘My kids’ were there, They waved, called, gave me high 5s, hugged me, and showed me the colors they were eating, the vegetables and fruits they had picked up. A few of them handed their packaged foods and asked me if they were healthy. WOW! Moments like these help me to hang on and keep going.
My mission is to plant seeds of health and change the life/health/lifestyle of one person at a time. Helping kids is like helping a tree to grow stronger and healthier. Cannot be more impactful than that. If I do change the life of one of them, I’ll have done a good job. And although I might never know whether that happens, I just need to keep following my passion and doing my best.
My heart is filled with love and hope. I am hanging to it–this gives me positive energy.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my friend Maria Angelova for bringing this opportunity to my attention–short notice still worked!
Thanks to the teachers and their assistances of each classroom at DSE. And thanks Denise Haltrecht–Assistant Principal @ DSE for allowing me participate and educate kids on healthy living.

I believe investing is our health is the most important financial decision we can make in our lifetime. I believe everyone deserves to:
- feel vibrant and strong inside-out.
- have an incredible zest for life.
- replace opportunities or fears.
- travel and explore.
- grow, expand, and share.
- and passionately do what they love the most.
Close your eyes and think 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years ahead. What quality of life do wish for yourself? Does that ensure you continue to do things you love the most, have energy, functional mobility, and cognitive health to continue to express your love to your loved ones?
The truth is I did not always look at myself and life that way until I took time to reevaluate and think ahead and get real. For most of my adult life, I was clueless especially when it came to my lifestyle and health.
I had been great on WHAT to do. I had always figured out HOW to for my what. Yet, I did not have a meaningful purpose in life, my WHY was very poor. Since I started my health journey which eventually turned into a complete lifestyle and career change, all the learnings, personal changes, reversing my pre-diabetes, and continuous investment in personal growth have changed me forever.
I am passionate about sharing my experiences, successes and failures–hence the reason I started Be Fab – Be You LLC . It is important to me to raise awareness, plant seeds, educate people, and help others get to their WHY as well so they can make changes stick as well.
Often, many people realize that they have abused their bodies and mind when they get to their mid 40s and 50s. Poor energy, libido, focus, productivity, confidence, self-esteem, and zest for life. Bloating, skin issues, stubborn belly fat, brain fog, cravings, and mood swings have become fixtures and go unnoticed until something tragic happens. The lifestyle we are (were) exposed to and choose to lead matters every day. I have met some people who have chosen to shut their eyes and ears, live in denial, and take no action. The whatever attitude is expressed in words or body language. Plus, many of them speak loud enough trying to convince others to join their train.
It is our responsibility, from time to time, to kindly offer help. We cannot give up on them because at some point, that person might be ready for change and you will love to contribute to his/her grow.
Would you like to play a game? After you finish reading this newsletter:
- Take 5 to 10 minutes to make a list of people who could be encouraged to improve their health.
- Do not judge and think he/she might not welcome what you have to say, from your heart.
- Prioritize your list. Who does need support the most? Who do you feel most comfortable with?
- Every week or two, reach to one person. Invest time to call or meet in person.
- Say something like, ‘I was thinking on our conversation or your post about how you’ve feeling, etc’. Be kind and show you are there to help and whatever you discuss is confidential.
- Offer accountability or whatever you feel comfortable with. Of course you are always welcome to refer to a coach like myself. I offer a few Energy Audit free every month.
I believe in changing one live at a time. Let’s unite efforts so we can live in a more positive, healthier, and vibrant world.
Why am I talking about this? On March 13rd, I lost a very good friend of mine. This 35 years old, symbol of health, left us. There was a tumor in his frontal lobe. It reminded me that LIFE IS SHORT. I will continue to do what I preach, so I have the energy to help people live their lives to the fullest as well. I am not perfect. Nobody is. I am doing my best and I want you to do the same. Live with no regrets. Health is fundamentally important to get there. Read more here.

Many people find themselves starving a couple of hours after drinking a smoothie. Does that resonate with you? Eating every two-three hours does not help you maintain a balanced blood sugar or allow your body burn fat.
Have you taken a few minutes to evaluate your smoothie? Here are a few questions to get you started. How nutrient-dense is it? Is it balanced with adequate ratio of carbohydrates (from vegetables and fruits), fats, and protein? How sweet is it? How fast do you drink it? The answers will provide great clues.
My smoothie keeps me full for approximately 4 – 4.5 hours. Here is the recipe I prepared for my breakfast this morning. Bonus: left over for dinner.
Ingredients:
- Power greens: kale, spinach, arugula. 3/4 of my Vitamix cup is filled with greens 🙂
- Small red beet.
- 1/2 kiwi.
- 4-5 frozen strawberries.
- 1/2 scoop of Vega electrolytes.
- 3 scoops of Standard Process (SP) Complete Dairy Free powder (2 scoops equal 10g of protein).
- 1 tsp of various powders: milk thistle seed, kelp, mushroom, mucuna, maca, ashwagandha root, and raw cacao nibs.
- Juice of one lemon.
- Water (per texture based).
Preparation
Blend all ingredients. I use a Vitamix and I blend it for no more than 10 seconds. I love this machine. It saves me a lot of time compared to Magic Bullet I use to have and handles larger volume.
Poor it into your cup (s) and at last, add healthy fats:
- 1 Tbsp of hemp seeds
- 1 Tbsp of coconut flakes (organic and 100% pure, no sugar added)
- 1-2 Tbsp of chia gel (chia seeds prepared in advance and made into a gel)
Shake or stir it and enjoy it!
My smoothie changes every time I make it. I prepare with different vegetables and fruits. Most of the time, I use unsweetened coconut milk. Other times, I do not add all the powders–SP Complete is a staple. I have been recovering my adrenal glands and I am in need of extra electrolytes. I started to add them to my smoothie a week ago. Recently, I started to add fats at the end and I LOVE it. I had always blended them in with all other ingredients.
I am adventurous when it comes to mixing and matching ingredients. I have rarely ruined it. Plus, I think of the awesome fuel I am consuming to keep my body and mind happy.
I encourage you to open your mind, get out of the comfort zone, and try changing your recipe a little. You do not know what you do not know, right? Play with the ingredients and texture. If you have never tried the various powders, add them slowly and one at the time. It might take time to acquire the taste and they are amazingly healthy.
I hope this recipe inspires you to prepare balanced and nutritious smoothies going forward.

Cheers To A Healthy You!

When we think of living a healthy lifestyle, two words usually are what automatically come to mind – diet and exercise. As a health and fitness coach, it’s my mission to encourage you to transform your habits, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and sustain a good exercise schedule. But I’d be doing my job wrong if that were all I were doing and not touching on other lifestyle areas essential to body and mind health. A huge part of my job is making sure the diet and exercise plans we have you on are optimized for YOU, and that you’re getting the most out of them in every way possible.
Nutrient Bioavailability
Today I’m going to talk about diet, eating healthy, and making the food you eat work, HARD, and effectively distribute all those good nutrients throughout your body. This is called bioavailability – the proportion of the nutrients you eat that actually enter the bloodstream, are disbursed to the necessary body parts, and have an effect on your healthy lifestyle [1].
Some foods, even very healthy foods, don’t have the intended health effects on our body because, eaten by themselves, the nutrients in them aren’t easily absorbed into our bloodstream. So they need a partner, another food, to make them more bioavailable and easier to absorb from the gut into the bloodstream. For example, iron has a higher bioavailability when it is consumed with Vitamin C, and carotenoids are better absorbed when a small amount of fat or oil is consumed along with it [2].
The different types of nutrient-rich foods we eat can also affect bioavailability. Want to make sure you’re getting the calcium you need? Look to kale! Studies show that the calcium the body absorbs through kale is much more bioavailable than the calcium absorbed through dairy [3].
Practical Use
Let’s put this information into practical use. What should your diet look like in order to optimize the bioavailability of the food you’re eating? First, start thinking of your food as the type of nutrient it is: macronutrients, micronutrients, and phytonutrients. Macronutrients are proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. These are the most bioavailable nutrients, easily absorbed into the body. The other two, micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and phytonutrients (natural plant compounds) need a little extra help with absorption. Pairing macronutrients, in small amounts, with micronutrients and phytonutrients gives us the best bioavailability. And cooking foods together is a great way to do this [4]!
Combine To Win
Here are three food combination suggestions that you can use to make sure you’re getting the most out of your food!
-
Citrus dressing (preferably lime) on your leafy green, veggie rich salad. Lime enhances the bioavailability of iron in leafy greens such as spinach and kale. Throw some chopped up carrots in there too, because the citrus also enhances beta-carotin [5].
-
Fish and leafy greens. The (good!) fats in the fish increase the bioavailability of the nutrient-rich greens, so cook them together or put your just-cooked fish on a salad [4].
-
Fresh lemon juice in green tea. The antioxidants in natural green tea are made more bioavailable by the citrus properties of the fresh squeezed lemon [4].

What a beautiful day at Crossfit Atlanta! We got together to celebrate Richard’s life. Our friend Richard left us on March 13th. He was passionate about fitness, crossfit, yoga, volleyball, wellness, life with purpose, and helping people lead a healthier and mindful life.
We had hits running a 20-minute WOD (Workout Of Day) followed by yoga. We gathered around and shared memories and reasons we cared much for Richard’s beautiful soul. We wrapped it up watching a slideshow of hundreds of photos we submitted of and with Richard. It was also great to meet individuals from other gyms join us as well.
Now, we have Richard in our gym’s wall. It was a magical day. I am thankful for the staff of Crossfit Atlanta who make the event possible.
RIP Richard Bowen
P.S. The person in yellow bright shirt is me…seconds behind the class 🙂

Listen to my interview with Muriel Donnolly, radio host at Empire Radio Now, on 03/23/17. I had a great time sharing my entrepreneurial journey, my passion to transform lives by educating, coaching, and mentoring on health and wellness, fitness, and corporate initiatives.
This was also the first time I discuss Sweet Redemption Solution. I am in the process of rebranding my 90-Day Blood Sugar Program to this cool new name this fall. You guys will love my ‘little guy’. Stay tuned!
Enjoy the interview!

The evening of March 13, 2017 was very sad for me with the loss of my friend Richard Bowen. I kinda lost it that night ~ 9pm when I read the update on his sudden hospitalization for a brain surgery. He never made to surgery. Eventually, I learned that was a tumor on this frontal lobe, close to this note and eye. I had seen Richard at the gym on March 6th. On March 9th, we got the news he was in Miami, in the ICU, highly sedated and by his mom’s side, waiting for brain surgery. I was shocked. And then, a few more days and Richard is dead.
Immediately, it reminded me that LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT. It’s about NOW, not yesterday, or tomorrow. Sobbing and filled with sadness, I grabbed the phone and called my best friend to tell her I loved her to death and to reaffirm how important she is to me. She is family to me. Call mom and sister in Brazil and expressed my gratitude and love.
I needed time to reflect. I couldn’t go home. I went from one local bar to the next, not to get drunk, but to be with people. I cried and talked to strangers; we shared ‘stuff’ about life, they met Richard and learned how beautiful his soul was, and we talked about the loved ones in our lives. It helped me get through until I went home about 1:30am.
Tears and deep emptiness continue for the next two days. For the next week, my mind and body decided I needed to take a break, continue to meet people, and grieve. Life is about living, expressing and not internalizing. I wrote, I talked, I showed gratitude, and I realigned a few things with myself.
Why was his time to go? I do not know. This 35 year old Jamaican man, with a beautiful, vibrant, giving, and caring soul, touched many lives, including mine. He was a crossfit and passionate yoga instructor, committed to wellness and fitness (his own and of others). He was a fantastic volleyball player and lately, he was helping teenager boys at a high school to understand the benefit of yoga, breathing, and peace. He was a giver. I am thankful to have met Richard.
We don’t expect a healthy and young person like Richard to go so soon. We must believe God has better plans for him. We must belief that his death is the creation of much bigger things—from inspiring others to be their best, to finding and following their ‘calling’, to bringing people closer, to saving lives of others, to x,w,x I don’t know what, when, how. I do know there is a bigger reason for him to go….beyond anyone’s understanding. It might take months, years, or decades to for these amazing bursts to happen, but they will. I feel it in my heart. I hope his mom and sister do as well. I cannot imagine their pain. Prayers and thoughts with them now and forever.
Richard and I shared a few things in common and maybe explain some of my emotional breakdown.
1. We both left our well paying jobs to follow our passion. Not only we did that around the same time, but also we left it for health, wellness, and fitness. We had talked about possibilities of working together as I build my network for corporate wellness solutions. We also talked about the hardship and stressors of being entrepreneurs and trying to make it.
2. We both play volleyball…He is an indoor guy and I am a double’s outdoor girl. In Oct 2013, I had the honor to be his first female partner in doubles reverse co-ed grass tourney. I got the man outside
🙂 We had a blast!
3. We were both not born in the US. He is Jamaican and I am Brazilian. The latin blood peeps.
4. Appreciation for nature. Sep 2015, Richard joined one of hikes I organized. He loved it. He felt the connection with nature and never looked back. He went hiking many times going forward.
5. Libras always have a spot in my heart. Libras are good peeps 🙂
What was immediate take away?
Richard’s death reminded that’s always about now, in the moment. We must express our feelings and thoughts now, not later. JUST DO IT! Any time in the future might be too late. It is not about fear. It is about being more present and intentional daily.
We get to have a WIN daily. Make a daily effort to add value to at least one person—that’s what brings the best out of us, that’s what makes us humans. Sustaining a healthy lifestyle allows us to express our love, emotions and doing what’s most important to us.
Lastly, I thought it’d share one my fav songs ever. I listen to it almost daily. You might find it inspiring as well. It’s by Katie Perry and it is very inspiring to me.
Rest in peace, Richard! I will miss you.
