Today’s episode is part 2 of the weight loss PILL mini-series. I invite you to listen to episode 63 if you haven’t done so for an open and even provocative conversation. Today, I will spit out the goodies for the first ingredient of the Horstmann Weight Loss PILL, and in my opinion, this one is essential as it holds all other ingredients together.  If you are thinking to stop listening, I challenge you to NOT do so. I may just surprise you and you will miss something good because of a fixed mindset…I know that’s not YOU, right?

By the way, did you catch the ”Horstmann Weight Loss PILL”? I carry his last name with great pride and I’ll never give it up. Plus, I don’t have kids to carry it out so I better use it to name things.

OK, let me kick off today’s episode with a brief weight loss primer and ingredient #1.

According to Consumer Reports, there are roughly 8,000 different diet pills on the market. Consumer Reports said that “We’ve researched just about all of them and to be perfectly honest – 99% of companies are out there to rip you off. There’s virtually nothing special about any of the ingredients or there is some sort of ongoing payment plan that’s nearly impossible to cancel.”

Weight loss is not easy and can be complex especially for those who are obese. It’s not easier because we are all biochemically different. It also means that your genetics, vital reserve, microbiome, gut health, sleep routine, movement, stress levels, how your body metabolizes macronutrients, sensitivities, allergies, and mindset are examples of what can impact your weight and your ability to lose it.

That said, do you think that a weight loss or diet PILL can take care of all these things for you? Like any other drug, it may help recalibrate a neurotransmitter so you feel happier and more positive that will help you make healthier choices. Or it will rebalance a hormone or receptor that reduces cravings and you eat less.

What happens when you stop taking most of these pills and drugs?

The Horstmann Weight Loss PILL has four ingredients that are exclusive compared to the 8,000 diet pills on the market.

Check this out, the first letter of each ingredient matches with each letter of the word PILL.  Coincidence? Nope, actually, Not really…Actually, P.I.L.L. is an acronym now. Yeah, babe!

P for PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY – It’s Time for you to take the bull by the horns and ride, baby!  And the bull we are fighting today is the extra weight and fat.

Recently I came across an article on Psychology Today that says “Our happy brain chemicals (like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, endorphin) evolved to do specific jobs, not to flow all the time for no reason. They’re designed to reward survival behavior. They metabolize quickly so you always have to do more to get more. In the state of nature, continual action was necessary for survival, and happy chemicals rewarded that action.

When you expect happiness to come from “the system,” you have less reason to take the steps that would trigger it.”

This last sentence really tells a lot, doesn’t it?  “the system” can be government, medical system, family, partner, job, whatever we are attaching our actions to. When we put happiness on the hands of someone or something else, we give our power away.

Personal responsibility is “belief that human beings choose and control their own actions and destiny. Psychologists hold the view that because humans are heavily influenced by their upbringing and past experiences they may not always be fully responsible for their actions and that these other factors need to be taken into consideration.”

How do personal responsibility foster weight loss and weight management?

  • Take inventory of your life at least once/year, the more frequently you do, the better it is for you. Be 100% honest about your strengths, abilities, weaknesses, and voids.
  • Avoid distracting yourself and the process by blaming someone or external factors like the “system”
  • Accept that you are the only one who can achieve this for yourself and that includes making choices that will help you get there in regards to your lifestyle activities, including diet.
  • You have a choice, always. I encourage you to have 3 solutions or answers for every challenge.
  • As Tony Robbins says, energy flows where attention goes. Focus on things you have control and can do. Don’t let external factors and your own limiting beliefs take over you.

Don’t be surprised if you get butterflies in your stomach, start shaking your head with “I can’t do this”, or saying “I’ve tried this before”, or the classics like “I don’t’ have time for these stuff” and “this is too much work; I need to lose weight now”. Trust me. I’ve been there and felt all those things too and look at me now! I survived and I can affirm you I’ve become a better person.

If you have tried 1,000 things, this is NOT the TIME to QUIT!!!

You just haven’t found what’s right for you. My experience tells me that if that’s your case, you need to DIG for HIDDEN stressors so you can follow a specific protocol that will bring you results you need.

Let me tell you, I am not saying the task of embracing personal responsibility is easy. We all know that the road to success is uphill. The easy stuff runs on its own and that’s not what you’re looking for when your journey involves weight loss. If you’re not up for it, just accept it and let go of your fears and anxiety about it.

Or choose to accept that this is an area of improvement and once you take inventory and accept responsibility for behaviors and actions that don’t align with your values and goals. Once you do so, you will be unstoppable!!!

You will feel empowered with a renewed sense of control. You learn to trust yourself again—and yes, if this seems attainable right now because you let yourself down so many freaking times in the past, listen to me…
